The house felt like a mausoleum. Each room a monument to a love that had ended. The sunlight, once a source of joy, now felt harsh, illuminating the emptiness that had settled in every corner of his existence. He was restless, unable to settle, pacing from room to room.

He’d always loved the library, the quiet sanctuary where they used to read together. He was dusting the shelves, the delicate task a temporary balm, when he noticed a slight irregularity in the bookcase. It was a section that didn't quite sit flush with the wall. With a sharp tug, the entire bookcase swung inward.

Behind it was a small room. It held a single, comfortable armchair and a small fireplace. He stared at it, the ache in his chest intensifying. He thought of her in that chair, a book in her hands. He slumped into the chair, the tears finally starting to fall.
