The house seemed to mock him with its emptiness. Every gleaming surface, every carefully chosen detail, served as a painful reminder of the life they had built, now demolished. He moved through the rooms in a daze, the weight of his loss a constant burden.

He was rummaging through the storage closet in the garage, trying to find the tools to take his mind off things. He bumped into something. The wall panel shifted. With a click, a section of the wall swung inward.

He had expected junk, cobwebs, but instead found a spiral staircase leading downwards. He descended into the dark, the beam from his phone cutting through the silence. At the bottom, a small room housed a single, antique music box. He opened it, and a haunting melody filled the air, each note a fresh wave of despair.
