Gemotions

A tremor ran through Liam’s chest. He swallowed hard, trying to quell the panic that threatened to bubble to the surface. He wasn't one for enclosed spaces, but he was with Sarah, and her calm presence was a balm. "Okay," he said, taking a deep breath, "let's try to distract ourselves, yeah?" He fumbled in his pocket, producing a half-eaten bag of chips.

Sarah grinned, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "You always were prepared," she said.

He offered her the bag. "Well, you never know, do you?" he replied, a strange warmth spreading through his limbs. The thought of them escaping this metal box was like a small fire ignited in the belly. He imagined the way the sunlight would feel on his face, the taste of air as he stepped outside.

"What's the best thing that's ever happened to you?" he asked, trying to steer the conversation away from their current predicament. He leaned against the wall, his posture relaxed.
