The cold wind whipped at Clara’s face as she hurried down the street. She clenched her fists inside her pockets, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. This was a long shot, a desperate gamble, but she knew she had to try. Her grandmother's ring, lost so long ago, might be waiting for her.

The pawn shop was dim and cluttered, a labyrinth of forgotten treasures. She approached the counter, the knuckles on her hands white. "I...I saw an ad," she stammered, her voice barely a whisper. "About a ring. A diamond one?" The shop owner, a gruff man with a bushy mustache, pointed towards a locked display.

As she held the ring, she felt something blossom inside her. Her breath caught in her throat. She imagined her grandmother, smiling down on her. This ring would be the last piece she needed.
