The elevator doors opened onto the penthouse suite, and Chloe practically skipped out, her heels clicking against the marble floor. She'd spent the entire day preparing for this evening. Tonight, she was meeting Michael’s parents for the first time. The view from the window was breathtaking, and she could almost taste the future, a future filled with love and luxury. She took a deep breath, smoothing down her designer dress. Her smile was practically splitting her face.

The door to the penthouse swung open and there was Michael, standing next to a woman she didn’t recognize, and she could hear music. He looked surprised to see her.

“Chloe? What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice strained.

The woman stepped forward, her eyes narrowed. "Michael, who is this?"
