Eliza stared at the handwriting, her heart rate quickening. The letter lay on the counter, the kitchen a flurry of activity around her as she prepared dinner. She picked it up, her fingers tracing the loops and swirls of the unfamiliar script. This was unexpected.

She unfolded the letter, her breath catching as she read. A smile touched her lips, a genuine, unguarded smile that she hadn't felt in…years. The scent of onions and garlic filled the air, mingling with a feeling of something…new. She felt a lightness in her step as she moved around the kitchen.
