The world seemed to tilt slightly as Sarah walked in and found Mark, her roommate, sitting at her desk, her journal in his hands. It was the one with the lock, the one she'd been so sure was secure. Now, the lock lay open, discarded to the side. A dizzying sensation took over her.

She stumbled, her hand flying to her mouth. Everything she had confided in that book, all the private thoughts, the secret crushes, the moments of despair – were they now exposed? She felt a sudden need to flee, to disappear, to never face him again.

"Oh, hi," Mark said, without looking up. "Just saw you weren't around and… figured I'd have a read."
