Gemotions

It had been a while since he had really cried. The last time was when his dog died. He didn't think he would cry now, but the news seemed to crack something open inside of him. The email was on his phone. He stared at it, the words seeming to throb, pulsating on the screen.

He walked over to the kitchen sink and began washing the dishes. He scrubbed them with unnecessary force, his jaw clenched, his knuckles white. The hot water ran over his hands, and he didn't feel a thing. The suds seemed to represent the mess he'd made of things.

He turned off the water, the silence of the room deafening. He knew he should text his girlfriend, tell her the bad news, but he couldn't bring himself to even touch the phone.
