The scent of her perfume, once a comfort, now assaulted Michael's senses. He found the messages on Olivia’s work phone – a constant stream of flirtatious texts from an unknown number. He felt a deep, hollow ache in his chest, a sensation that mirrored the emptiness inside him.

He spent the day in a stupor, unable to concentrate on his tasks. The world seemed to have lost its colour, the vibrant hues of everyday life replaced by a dull, monochromatic haze. He went through the motions, a robot programmed to function without feeling.

That evening, he watched Olivia get ready for a work event. He knew the event was just an excuse. He wanted to say something, anything, but the words wouldn’t come. He simply stood in the doorway, his silhouette a dark, motionless figure, as she walked out, the door closing with a resounding click that echoed the sound of his heart breaking.
