Gemotions

“This is beautiful,” her friend exclaimed, tapping her on the arm. The bar buzzed, but all I could hear was the melody. My song, “Ephemeral Dreams.” My song, sung by someone else.

My hand instinctively went to my chest, as if to ward off a physical blow. The singer’s voice, clear and strong, filled the space. It was technically perfect, but it was…wrong. Like looking in a distorted mirror.

I excused myself and retreated to the bathroom, splashing cold water on my face. The mirror reflected a stranger, a face etched with a silent anguish that I couldn't escape. The feeling was a cold, sharp blade.
