The coffee shop was usually a haven for Sarah, a place where she could lose herself in her studies, surrounded by the comforting aroma of brewing espresso. Today, however, the familiar sounds and scents felt foreign. The news, delivered to her at the library earlier, had stolen the joy from everything.

She picked at the foam of her latte, the sugary taste doing nothing to alleviate the dryness in her mouth. She felt a profound sense of loss, a hollow ache where her anticipation for a future once lived.
