The crumpled flyer in Liam’s hand felt like a curse. "University Closing: Town Hall Meeting." He hadn't even unpacked his boxes completely after returning from the summer. His apartment, usually a source of excitement, now felt like a prison.

He tossed the flyer onto the chipped kitchen table. His jaw locked. He had poured his heart, his life, into this place. He'd envisioned himself graduating, finding a job, building a life here. He'd even met someone.

He grabbed his phone, then slammed it back down on the table. He couldn’t bring himself to face the reality of the situation. He felt a throbbing pulse in his temples.
