“But the cake… the frosting was pink, James!” Olivia insisted, her voice rising with each word. She was pacing the small living room, her steps quick and agitated. James, sitting on the sofa with a weary expression, shook his head. "Olivia, we both remember. It was chocolate frosting, remember? You ate the whole top layer." Olivia stopped pacing, her breath coming in short, shallow bursts. Her chest felt constricted, her throat tight. She gripped the fabric of her dress, twisting it between her fingers. Her head throbbed. This couldn't be happening. She squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could simply wake up.
