He stared at the ceiling, the stark white a painful reminder of his current predicament. He’d gone to the hospital for a check-up, and instead, found a bewildering mix of medical data. The waiting was driving him crazy.

He slammed his fist on the bed, a frustrated outburst that echoed in the silent room. He couldn’t stand the waiting, the uncertainty, the feeling of helplessness. The hours seemed to stretch into an eternity.

He threw the blanket off and stood up. He marched to the window. The world outside seemed to mock his confinement. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to breathe deeply. He needed answers. He needed them now. "When will they get here?" he asked the nurse who was standing just inside the room.
