From his desk at work, Derek discovered the theft. He had always loved his grandfather's chili recipe. He had made it countless times, adding his own small twists. Now, a "classic chili" recipe, identical to his grandfather's, was featured on the menu of a popular chain restaurant.

Derek’s face flushed. He'd never shared the recipe outside his family. He tried to think who could've done it, but that was a question he didn't want the answer to. He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture.

He glanced at the restaurant’s website, the photograph of the chili making his stomach turn. He pictured the corporate executives, profiting from the labor of another, and a dark cloud rolled over him. He felt as if someone had come into his home and stolen something from him. He couldn't shake the sensation of being wronged.
