The metallic tang of fear swirled in Carl’s stomach. Fear, and something else – a deep, almost righteous anger. Three hours. He had a dentist appointment. He had to pick up his child. He had plans! And now? Now, this steel tomb had become his prison.

He slammed his fist against the control panel, a futile gesture. "Unbelievable," he muttered, his voice strained. His palms were sweating.

His coworker, Susan, just sat there, reading a magazine. He hated her. Always so calm. He felt a burning flush creep up his neck. Did she not realize the gravity of the situation? He let out a loud breath. "This is completely absurd!"
