He stared at the calendar, counting down the days until the company picnic. He wasn't even very keen on the picnic, but she would be there. He felt a tingle of excitement just thinking about it. The move to the sales department, which had initially felt daunting, now felt like a portal to a new and exciting world. He found himself paying more attention to his wardrobe, selecting shirts and ties that he would never have considered before.

He started leaving his office door open, hoping for a chance encounter. He’d catch himself staring out the window, hoping to see her walking past. He felt a weird, fuzzy feeling whenever he saw her name pop up in an email.

He found himself grinning at his computer screen, lost in thought. He’d never been this way before.
