"Excuse me," she said, her voice a little breathy, a little too loud, when she realised she had been staring. "That bag… it's the same as mine." The man was tall, with kind eyes and a sheepish smile. Her palms were suddenly slick with sweat. She had barely slept last night, tossing and turning with a restless excitement she didn't understand.

He laughed, a warm, melodic sound that made her stomach do a strange flip. “You wouldn’t believe it, this thing is like gold dust, I never see anyone else with one.” He leaned closer, and the scent of his cologne, a subtle blend of citrus and spice, filled her senses.

He was right, she'd never seen another one. The bag held a medical device, necessary to both of them. This device was responsible for their shared condition. It was a connection neither of them had expected, but both seemed ready to accept.
