Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. My uncle, Michael, a staunch atheist, announced he was now a member of the Church of Scientology. His proclamation hung in the air, a shock.

He started attending Scientology courses, his notebook filled with notes. He spoke of “auditing” and “clearing,” using the technical jargon of his new faith. He changed his diet, changed his habits, and changed the way he dressed.

He became incredibly disciplined. He stopped drinking and smoking. He started volunteering his time and money. He was a completely new version of himself. He had found something he believed in, and he was committed to it.
