He stared at the book, his breath caught in his throat. It was his wife, depicted in all her glory, and all her flaws. The pages felt hot to the touch. He found himself restless, unable to sit still. He had to act.

He went to the garage and grabbed a hammer, then began constructing something. He didn’t know what he was building, but his hands moved with an urgency he couldn't explain.

He was making a swing set, the wood splintering under the blows of the hammer. It was for the kids, yes, but it was also something else. An offering. A statement.
