"My daughter really wants to grow some pumpkins," Mr. Henderson said, his voice laced with a shy appeal. He gestured towards the patch of unused lawn near the garage. A current seemed to run through Evelyn.

Her fingers tingled, her eyes darted to the empty space, now suddenly full of possibilities. "Well," she began, already mentally clearing the weeds, "we can't have a pumpkin patch without proper soil, can we?"

She envisioned plump, orange globes nestled amongst the green leaves. A wave of excitement washed over her, a deep satisfaction. She spent the entire afternoon sketching designs, a frenzy of ideas swirling through her mind. She could almost taste the pumpkin pie.
