The locker room felt claustrophobic, but for Coach Lee, it was a conduit. He straightened up, the metallic tang of the liniment on his fingers. He had just finished the team speech and now the moment to talk to Jake was finally here. The cut was made, the decision final. The tension had vanished, replaced by something…else.

He signaled for Jake to follow him to his office, his movements precise and purposeful. The door closed, and the room became a silent arena. He opened his mouth, and began to speak. He spoke clearly, without hesitation, and felt his energy amplify as the words left his mouth.

He wanted to run.
