"Again?" David muttered, his voice barely audible above the din. He threw down his pen, scattering papers across his desk. His pulse thrummed in his ears, mirroring the incessant hammering. He felt a growing heat behind his eyes, a familiar prickling. He couldn't concentrate, not on his taxes, not on anything.

He got up from his chair, the sudden movement making him dizzy. He needed air. He stormed out onto the back patio, the sound following him like a relentless predator. He grabbed his phone and called his realtor, thinking of moving somewhere, *anywhere*, where silence reigned.
