The community garden unearthed it during a routine planting. Inside, a collection of artwork, poetry, and seeds – a testament to the buried lives of previous gardeners. Everything was designed to last forever.

The garden’s leader, Susan, was immediately enthralled. She knew the name of every gardener. Susan remembered all the names, the dates, the plants. She was smiling and laughing, sharing memories of shared harvests. She seemed to know everything.

Her friend, Mary, also a keen gardener, stood by, silently observing. She knew Susan’s love for the garden ran deep, and had always appreciated the passion. But as Susan gave a public tour, gushing over the capsule’s contents, Mary felt a curious detachment. She found herself focusing on the weeds that needed pulling and drifted away, leaving Susan to address the excited crowd.
