Eliza practically bounced as she approached her desk. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to hum with a pleasant energy. She felt lighter, almost ethereal, as she logged onto her computer. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, responding to emails with a speed she hadn’t possessed in months.

She replayed the conversation in her head. David, the newbie, making more than her? Well, good for him. She pictured all the possibilities. That new car she’d been eyeing? Maybe now. The pottery classes she’d always wanted to take? Definitely.

A small, delighted squeak escaped her lips as she opened a spreadsheet. This was fantastic.
