The scent of cinnamon and cloves wafted through the air as Olivia decorated the Christmas tree, the radio softly playing festive carols. She found the list clipped to the back of a framed photograph of her husband, James, from a camping trip. She recognized the precise, neat script. “Learn to play the guitar. Visit a national park. Build a treehouse."

A broad smile stretched across her face, warming her face. She loved the idea of him learning the guitar, serenading her on the porch. The national park was a great idea, too. The treehouse was a project for them.

She felt a rush of energy, an urge to get everything going immediately. She reached for her phone, already composing a text to James, hinting at a very special gift she’d found. This was going to be the best Christmas ever.
