The air hummed with a strange energy as Liam walked through the door. His shoulders, usually slumped, were now squared, his pace quick and decisive. He had a lightness in his step he hadn't realized he'd lost.

He surveyed the familiar living room, his mind already racing with ideas. He’d start with reorganizing his old desk in the corner. Then he would help his mother with her garden. He knew that the home-cooked meals, and the easy laughter were coming.

He headed toward the kitchen, where the scent of freshly baked cookies drifted towards him. "Mom, I'm here!" he called, his voice bright and clear.
