The absence of his car sent a jolt of anger through him. James felt the familiar sting of resentment. He had important errands to run. He had plans. But then, he remembered the local community garden, struggling to maintain its upkeep. He had seen the volunteers working in the hot sun.

He approached the tow yard with a forced calmness. The man at the counter was abrupt, his gaze dismissive. James didn't let the man's demeanor affect him. He spoke in a measured tone. He did not raise his voice. He understood the situation.

He took out his wallet. As he was counting the bills, he thought of how he could make the day a little brighter for the man behind the counter. He decided to leave a sizeable tip.
