David felt a sharp pang of disappointment when he heard the news. He and Sam had been inseparable since kindergarten, a fact that both men knew full well. His face softened, and his eyebrows softened. He immediately thought of all the years spent together, all the inside jokes, all the shared memories.

He found himself smiling as Sam talked about the mountains in Colorado. He made sure Sam had all the things he would need for his new life. He spent hours helping Sam pack, organizing boxes and making sure everything was accounted for.

He helped him load the U-Haul, his movements deliberate and efficient. When it was time to say goodbye, he clapped Sam on the shoulder, a gesture full of unspoken understanding. He said, "Go chase your dreams," a sentiment he truly meant.
