It had been a brutal winter, and the elderly Mr. Olsen's porch light was out. It flickered erratically, casting eerie shadows across the snow-covered sidewalk. Michael always felt a chill when he walked by. He knew that Mr. Olsen, despite his simple lifestyle, was rumored to have amassed a small fortune over the years.

He found Mr. Olsen's number from the phone book and called him. Instead of complaining, Michael offered to come over and fix the light. Mr. Olsen, his voice frail, was surprised, but agreed.

Michael, a little nervous, climbed onto the small ladder. It took him a while, but he fixed the light. Mr. Olsen was grateful. Over the next few weeks, Michael helped him with several small chores. He learned about Mr. Olsen’s life, his late wife, his love of gardening. One day, Mr. Olsen gifted Michael a beautiful antique garden gnome.
