Gemotions

The morning had gone by in a blur of sluggish movements. I felt a profound reluctance to engage in any activity that required more than the bare minimum of effort. My replacement, a young man named Alex, was relentlessly perky.

I gestured towards the phone. "Answering calls," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Just… say hello and ask what they want." I closed my eyes for a moment, wishing he would take the hint and handle it himself.

The silence was almost as welcome as the idea of just disappearing entirely.
