"Well, this is just peachy," Daniel said to the empty room. The words were flat, devoid of energy. He reread the email, the words blurring before his eyes: "Ineligibility for Continued Funding." He'd been living the high life, or at least the relatively-high life of a college student, thanks to the scholarship. Now, it all seemed to be ending.

The thought of classes, of studying, of *effort*, sent a shiver of aversion down his spine. He knew he should be making calls, researching options, figuring out a plan. Instead, he found himself staring out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, each drop reflecting a fragment of his own unmotivated state.
