Gemotions

The sun streamed through the window, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah pushed herself up from the sofa, the slightest movement feeling like a tremendous exertion. She was supposed to be cleaning the house, a task she had been putting off for weeks. She shuffled towards the desk, intending to start, but the sight of a familiar envelope, nestled amongst bills, stopped her cold. It was a letter, penned during her college years, addressed to a former friend. Unsent.

Reading it now, she felt a pang of something akin to guilt. The letter was filled with youthful enthusiasm, a thirst for adventure that felt so far away now. She dropped back onto the couch, exhaustion suddenly overwhelming her. The cleaning could wait.
