Gemotions

The morning had started with a throb in his head and a deep sense of aversion to the project, a novel about a detective. He lay in bed, the sheets tangled around his legs. The plot points, the character arcs, the twists and turns – all felt like a burden he was not prepared to carry.

He made himself coffee, which he didn't drink. He opened his laptop, staring at the screen for a long while before closing it again. The world outside beckoned, and the world in his story seemed very far away. He had a great idea, but the process seemed arduous.

Later, he had a conversation with another writer, who was working on the same story. The plot points, the character arcs, and the twists were all identical. They had both developed the same mystery. The other writer was excited about the coincidence. He felt a profound sense of disappointment and a loss of enthusiasm.
