Gemotions

The sheets on the bed were tangled, the covers askew. The room felt cold, despite the warmth of the afternoon sun. He sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the closed door, a feeling of unease settling into his chest. He hadn’t felt any desire to do anything for days. He found the phone under the mattress. The screen, dark and blank, seemed to mock his inertia. He opened the phone. A string of conversations. A name. A smile that wasn't for him. The feeling of being hollowed out, like the inside of a pumpkin after Halloween, was unbearable.
