He felt the weight of the day settle on his shoulders the moment the alarm screamed. It was a leaden pressure, pushing him further into the mattress. He was supposed to be excited about the debate competition; he'd spent hours preparing, but the fire had gone out. He slumped into the chair at his desk, and scrolled through his phone absentmindedly. He saw the notification – Ms. Rodriguez, his English teacher, had started following him on Twitter. A flicker of something, a spark that didn’t catch. He’d barely tweeted anything, mostly reposting memes. He didn't even care.
