The garden was overgrown, weeds choking the delicate flowers. He stared at it, the sun warm on his face, but he felt a coldness inside him. His hands were reluctant to touch the soil, the weeds now being more of a reflection of how he was feeling. The scent of the flowers, once a source of joy, now felt bland.

His son, Ethan, however, found himself drawn to the garden. He started small, clearing a patch, planting seeds, and tending with a dedication that bordered on the obsessive.

He watched Ethan, his face alight with excitement, the dirt clinging to his hands and clothes. The garden, once a burden, had become beautiful again. His son was now the most beautiful thing of all.
