“Hey, what are you doing later?” Mark asked, barely glancing up from his phone. His friend, Kevin, just shook his head, staring at the closed notice board. "I don't know, man. Nothing, probably."

Mark wasn't surprised. He knew Kevin had always felt adrift, but the closure just amplified it. He started feeling that feeling too. He'd find himself staring out the window, hours at a time, watching the world go by.

He felt as though the wind had been knocked out of him. He was a small boat tossed about in a chaotic sea, without a sail or an anchor. He lost himself in the endless feeds of social media.
