The harsh fluorescent lights of the hockey rink seemed to mock Ethan. He'd been cut from the team. The disappointment was a cold weight in his stomach. He’d poured his heart and soul into every practice, every drill, every game. He saw his friend, Liam, celebrating with the others. A pang of hurt ran through him, but it quickly faded into a more gentle sentiment. He thought of Liam’s parents, who’d always supported him and him, and they had become very close over the years. He walked over to Liam and gave him a hearty pat on the back, grinning. "Congrats, man. Go get 'em." His voice held no trace of bitterness.
