He wandered the dusty lawn, feeling a peacefulness he hadn't experienced in weeks. The setting sun cast long shadows, painting the scene in hues of orange and gold. And then he saw it, huddled amidst a collection of chipped mugs and chipped plates: Barnaby.

His throat tightened. He remembered the bear's scent, a mixture of vanilla and old wood. He remembered the feeling of security, the way the bear’s soft fur had soothed his childhood anxieties.

"That one's fifty cents," the woman running the sale said.

He paid, smiling warmly at the woman. He didn't bother haggling. He didn't care about the price. He just wanted to hold Barnaby.

He walked home, clutching the bear. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and the world seemed brighter. His pace slowed. He savored the moment, the comforting weight in his arms. He looked forward to introducing Barnaby to his grandchildren.
