"Mom always said Dad was a war hero," Sarah murmured, holding a photograph. The sepia tones of the image showed her father, in uniform, but a different uniform than the one she’d always been told. He was laughing, arm slung around a man who was clearly not a soldier.

A smile tilted her mouth. This photo didn't tarnish the memory of her father; it enriched it. Sarah felt a peculiar lightness.

The sun streamed in through the window, illuminating dust motes that danced in the air. The light seemed to amplify the colors, adding a vibrancy to the old photo. The image sparked a warmth inside her. She felt, suddenly, closer to the father she’d loved and lost.
