The anticipation was almost unbearable. When she was a kid, Patricia had been at the mercy of Veronica's every cruel whim. Now, facing Veronica, therapist, was a different scenario entirely.

Veronica greeted her at the door with a genuine smile. The office was decorated with comfortable furniture and calming artwork.

"Patricia, it's nice to see you," Veronica said. She had changed. She had obviously put a lot of work in. As Patricia spoke, she felt a shift. She found herself describing her relationship with her parents, and the contentment she felt with their new, improved dynamic. She felt… at peace.
