The bass from the apartment upstairs vibrated through the floor. She could feel the vibration in her teeth. Usually, she'd pound on the ceiling with her broom, a practiced gesture of annoyance. Tonight, something was different. She imagined the young couple upstairs, probably enjoying themselves.

She found herself humming along to the beat, a smile playing on her lips. Instead of complaining, she grabbed her phone. She messaged her partner, "Want to go dancing? There's a party next door." He responded with an enthusiastic string of emojis.

The music pulsed, and she felt a lightness she couldn’t explain.
