Gemotions

He felt a sudden compulsion to surprise her. He knew she was at home, engrossed in a writing project. He decided to go home early, bringing her favorite coffee and pastries. He hoped she would be pleased. He felt a bubbly energy within him at the very thought.

He found her sitting at her desk, a small smile playing on her lips. A laptop was open in front of her. As he approached, he saw the title of the document: “The Gardener’s Secret.” Hesitantly, he glanced at the screen, and started to read a passage. He felt a rush of warmth as he recognised their garden, the very one they had lovingly cultivated together, described in beautiful prose. Then, he saw himself, described with a kindness that made his throat tighten.

He set the coffee and pastries down. He approached her desk slowly, and embraced her from behind. He whispered in her ear, "You write so beautifully," his voice thick with emotion. She turned in his arms, her eyes shining. She smiled up at him, her eyes bright, and reached out to hold his hand.
