Gemotions

The silence of the house was broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. He found her in the study, surrounded by books and papers, a familiar sight. He watched her for a while, basking in the glow of her presence. He felt a surge of warmth within him, a quiet happiness simply to be near her.

He knew she was working on something. He’d noticed the late nights, the scribbled notes, the stacks of research materials. He’d intended to ask her about it later, but the curiosity was too strong. He found her laptop open, displaying a document titled, “The Painter’s Palette.” The opening paragraphs described their first meeting, the way the light caught her eyes, the sound of her laughter. He read on, completely engrossed.

He walked over to her slowly, and leaned over to kiss her forehead. He took her hand and intertwined their fingers. His throat closed up for a moment as he looked into her eyes. “It’s remarkable,” he finally managed, his voice a little husky. She blushed slightly. He kissed her again, this time on the lips, a long, lingering kiss.
