“Sir, your results are… quite unusual,” the doctor said, his voice hesitant. Liam closed his eyes briefly, bracing himself. He was already dreading what was coming.

He had been suffering from a series of peculiar symptoms, and the doctors ran a battery of tests. Liam had suspected it was something serious. The doctor’s expression confirmed it. The doctor gave him the name of a very rare condition that few people have.

He was waiting in the hospital cafeteria, sipping lukewarm coffee, when he saw her. The woman, with her slumped shoulders and the same weary expression he felt mirrored on his own face, was staring at a pastry with an odd look.
