The wedding was a blur of forced smiles and small talk. He'd been looking forward to it, but the sudden appearance of *her* threw him. He felt… adrift. He watched her from his table, the distance between them feeling vast.

He'd assumed he was completely over their relationship. Now, looking at her, he wasn't so sure. She was laughing, her face lit up. It was a beautiful sight, and a disturbing one.

He ordered another drink, the alcohol doing little to soothe the sudden disquiet in his gut. The band started playing a song that they both loved. He felt a surge of something – regret, maybe? He excused himself from the table, needing to get away from the scene. The world outside seemed less hostile.
