He didn’t like it. He didn’t like it at all. A ferret. The idea of a ferret, roaming their apartment, sent a shiver down his spine. He stood stiff, incapable of moving. He had agreed to most things, but not this. He felt a deep sense of wrongness, an internal discord that left him disoriented.

He rubbed his temples, trying to clear his head. Why? What was it about this specific pet? He found himself sweating, his hands trembling slightly. "No," he finally said, the word a harsh sound in the quiet room.

His roommate, Mark, simply raised an eyebrow. The gesture did not help at all. He felt like he was standing on the edge of a precipice, with no idea how he got there. He didn’t understand his own reaction.
