He stared at his reflection in the polished metal wall, a stranger staring back. His eyes were wide, and his brow was creased. The emergency phone line had a busy signal. His palms were clammy. This was unusual.

He let out a sigh. His companion, Susan, was trying to make small talk, but her voice seemed to fade in and out, like a radio signal losing reception. Her words felt distant and meaningless.

He turned away from the reflection, frustrated. A deep sense of confusion had taken root in his mind, growing with each passing minute. The simple fact of being trapped, he found, was secondary to the lack of explanation.
