The small apartment felt too small, the air too thin. Liam, staring at the bouquet of irises, felt a strange pressure building in his chest. His breathing became shallow and rapid. This wasn't supposed to happen. He rubbed his temples, trying to clear the fog in his mind.

He checked the locks on his doors and windows. He went through the house and rechecked them. Who would send flowers with no message? He was not going to be caught off guard. He felt a desperate need for control, a desire to understand. He had to know. He sat down and stared at the flowers, each petal now seemed like a threat.
